Date: 29 - 30 August 2015
Venue: Mary McKillop Place
The Annual Weekend Gathering took place at the now familiar Mary McKillop Place, a venue which offers us peace to concentrate on and enjoy our get together.
The participants were able to enjoy each others' company and take part in the various helpful sessions in beautifully fine weather.
A very brave Liz Davies, Coordinator of Families and Friends of Missing Persons Unit and Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Sydney Area, presented a wonderful talk on Self Compassion before leaving to attend to her very ill father. Liz, we thank you so much for caring enough to delay your leaving. Other talks were given by Julie Dunsmore of NALAG, Linda Campbell, Northern Beaches Chapter Leader, and Bernadette Arena of Quest for Life. All talks followed the title theme of "Keeping Memories Alive – Creating New Memories".
Breakout sessions available to all members dealt with subjects such as Meditation and Memories, The difference between men and women in grieving, Gardening Therapy and Art Therapy, all enjoyable and instructive.
Those who chose to stay overnight enjoyed a lovely dinner, followed by the Silent Auction and drawing of the Raffle. A big thanks to those who donated prizes and congratulations to the winners:
First Prize - $200 VISA Card (Janice Mallett)
Second Prize - Martin Sharp Print (Linda Campbell)
Third Prize - Coffee Maker (Trish Alford)
Fourth Prize - Hamper (Beverley Mead)
Fifth Prize - Hamper (Jenny Wandl)
On Sunday there was a lovely talk by Bernadette Arena on Healing the Brain, followed by a Q&A session and to close, a simple but meaningful Candle Lighting Ceremony.
